Piccola | ESE Pod Coffee Machine | Piccola
Description
The Piccola by La Piccola is a café machine in miniature. Made in Italy from a single block of stainless steel, it uses the same brew group and the same brass heat exchanger as La Piccola's big machines: the difference is the size, not the cup.
It's the machine for a small team that takes its coffee seriously, or for an office that welcomes visitors. The steel lever locks in the 44 mm ESE pod, the 15-bar pump does the extracting, and the 1-litre glass tank shows you when it's time to refill. It draws 500 W while brewing and under 15 W on standby, so it can stay on all morning.
Spare parts available, a 24-month warranty and a build designed to last decades, not seasons.

FAQs
How long does it take to heat up?
Not long: the brass heat exchanger heats the water as it flows through. Switch it on and it's ready in a couple of minutes; thanks to its low standby consumption you can leave it on.
Is it noisy?
It's a pump machine, like any espresso maker: the noise is brief, just while it brews.
How is it different from the Sara Classic?
The Sara has a 3-litre tank and is designed for continuous use in an office kitchen; the Piccola is smaller (1 L) and lighter, for a private office or a team of 5 to 15 people.
Does more bar mean better coffee?
No. The bar figure manufacturers quote (15, 19…) is the pump's rated pressure; espresso is extracted at around 9 bar in every home machine. The number doesn't tell you which one makes better coffee: what changes the cup is the coffee, the grind and the temperature.
Brewing and storage
Whole bean coffee. Once opened, keep it in an airtight container, away from light, heat and moisture. Not in the fridge. Grind just before brewing and finish it within about 4 weeks: after that it is still coffee, just not the same coffee.
ESE pods. One pod per espresso. It goes straight into the portafilter as it is: no opening, no tamping. Keep them in their box, somewhere cool and dry.
Coffee machines. Follow the manufacturer's manual. Use low-mineral water, clean the portafilter and drip tray after each use and descale regularly. A clean machine makes better coffee. Simple as that.
